Superintendent's Message 2010-2011
 
Welcome to the Palmdale School District and its website.  I am proud to call the Antelope Valley home for the past twenty-five years and to have served in this district for the past twenty years.  I began my career in education as a substitute teacher and am now honored to serve as your Superintendent for a fifth year. 
 
I am currently a member of Kiwanis Palmdale West. I also serve on the Board of Directors for United Way of Los Angeles - Antelope Valley and on the Board of Directors for the School Employers Association of California.
 
Palmdale School District serves the community by providing a quality educational experience to over 22,000 students from pre-school through 8th grade.  We have 24 schools and over 3,000 employees who all share the goal of launching a lifetime of learning through a focus on quality standards-based instruction.
 
Our highly qualified teaching and support staff work diligently to see that every child receives an equitable education.  Our schools and workplaces are a safe and healthy environment for learning.
 
My goals for the upcoming 2010-2011 school year, are;
 
Related to District Goals 1 & 2
  • The District will continue to make positive progress on the API, with particular focus on grades 7-8.
  • The District will narrow the achievement gap for African American, English Language Learners, socio-economically disadvantaged students, and students with disabilities through intensive interventions to support low-performing students.
  • The District will continue to demonstrate its commitment to moving all students to “proficient or above” in mastery of State standards. 

Related to District Goal 4

  • School environments will be improved with repairs, upgrades, modifications, and re-engineering. 

Related to District Goal 5

  • Continue to restructure the intermediate schools, address preparation for the rigor of high school, equity of opportunities, and standards for transition to high school. 
Related to District Goal 6
  • The District will maintain positive budget certifications for the current and two subsequent fiscal years, with an exploration on revenue enhancements and operational efficiencies. 

Other Goals

  • Continuous proactive efforts will be made to meet the Local Education Agency Addendum and District Assistance and Intervention Team recommendations. 
  • Develop and implement a plan for community engagement and family involvement.
 
Here at Palmdale School District we keep focused on “the main thing” which, for us, is student learning.
