Welcome

Palmdale Learning Plaza (PLP), a school of choice in the Palmdale School District, is an International Baccalaureate World School. Authorized to teach the Primary Years Program (PYP)since September 2010, PLP now joins the ranks of 20 other PYP IB World schools in California. Development of the whole child as inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside, is the focus of the PYP. The program:

·       encourages international-mindedness

·       nurtures a positive attitude to learning by engaging students in inquiries and developing their awareness of the process of learning so that they become lifelong learners

·       reflects real life by encouraging learning beyond traditional subjects with meaningful, in-depth inquiries into real issues

·       teaches critical thinking, problem solving and literacy across the curriculum

·       promotes empathy, global compassion, working collaboratively and serving others

·       emphasizes the development of the whole student---physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically.

Teachers have received extensive training on the principles and requirements of the IB program, written significant and distinctive units of inquiry and developed their instructional practices to align with IB academic philosophies. Children are challenged to ask big questions and hone their research skills as they work collaboratively on six globally themed inquiries over the course of each school year in the K-6 program. PLP students work hard, as measured by their success on the annual state test. Palmdale Learning Plaza has continually ranked as one of the top-performing schools in the Palmdale School District since 2001. Education at the Learning Plaza is centered on preparing today’s student for a productive role in this multicultural world. http://www.ibo.org
