    Hello PSD Family,

The holidays are just around the corner. It’s great to see our campuses filled with festive decorations for students to enjoy.

I would like to thank all of you for working hard on keeping our Palmdale Promise alive and moving forward. As I visit all of the schools and see all of your friendly faces and speak with you one-on-one, it helps me and our school board learn which steps we need to take to achieve our goals.

This year we have kicked it up a notch to truly get our parents on board with the Palmdale Promise. As you are aware, parent involvement plays a crucial role in helping our students reach their full potential. I am very grateful for all of our school sites offering a variety of programs to help our parents grow and get informed about our school culture. I honestly believe that if our parents become active members in our schools, students will be able to reach a higher level of success.

On another note, thank you to everyone that participated in our tailgate party with the Antelope Valley College. We had a good turn out of parents, students and staff for our first year. It was an exciting event to get students thinking about college. AVC is a wonderful partner for our school district. Having all of you represent PSD at the event demonstrated our commitment for college readiness.

Don’t forget to promote our Promise 2 Thrive to a healthier you. I myself took a pledge at our Inaugural Promise 2 Thrive Health & Fitness Fair to eat healthier foods and become more active. So far it’s helping me keep up with our energetic students as I tour campuses.

Also, keep encouraging our students to read more books. We have officially challenged Pomona Unified School District on October 28, 2016, through our early learning literacy app Footsteps 2 Brilliance, to read 500,000 million words by the end of the school year. Together we will come out victorious from our friendly competition.

As always, my doors are open for you to schedule a time to discuss our district’s future. Feel free to send me an email or give me a call. I value your feedback to help us grow as a team.

I hope everyone has the opportunity to relax with family and friends during the holidays. Enjoy your much deserved winter break!
