The Summerwind staff has set the goal to maintain a school atmosphere in which children feel safe and happy while creating the best learning environment possible.  We will use the Professional Learning Communities (PLC) process to maximize student learning.

With our intent to accomplish this goal, we have developed a school-wide behavior plan. Along with this plan, you will find our school-wide positive reinforcement program. General classroom, playground and cafeteria rules, plus revised procedures and consequences are included. For this reason, pupils will be responsible for how they act. Individual responsibility is a key component in the plan.

Our belief is that all students can learn and are to act responsibly at school. Students are to behave in a manner that allows teachers to teach and other students to learn. They can and should do this without violating the best interest of any person in the school.

Since improving behavior is sometimes a learned process, we have a reward system to encourage learning. Students who are behaving appropriately will be rewarded and their achievements will be recognized.

The attached plan includes components that are the responsibility of the children and the school. These components need to be supported by parents and school staff.With this support the plan is sure to be successful.

On page one of the packet you will find a declaration which needs to be reviewed, signed and returned to the school. Please send it back with your child as soon as possible. That way we will know that you have read the information contained in the behavior plan and that you will assist Summerwind School in helping your child.Together we can assure your child the most successful year possible.
