Juniper Intermediate is proud to be a certified AVID school site since 2000.  The Advancement Via Individual Determination program is an in-school academic support program that prepares students for success not only in high school, but college.  AVID targets students who have a grade point average between 2.5 and 3.5, STAR test scores at the proficient level or above, and the desire to go to college and the willingness to work hard.  Typically AVID students are the first in their families to attend college, and many are from low-income or minority families.  Through rigorous classes and the AVID elective, students learn the skills necessary to enable them to succeed in a college preparatory educational path.  During the one period AVID elective, students learn organizational and study skills, work on critical thinking skills, practice asking probing questions, get academic help from peers and college tutors, and participate in enrichment and motivational activities that make college seem desirable and attainable.
