Melanie Pagliaro, Principal
Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year. My name is Melanie Pagliaro and I am the Principal of Mesquite Elementary School. This is my 25th year in the Palmdale School District. I taught upper grades for 11 years and have been an Administrator at both the Elementary and Junior High settings for the past 8 years. I have a strong background in instructional practices and am excited to be able to support the existing programs at Mesquite.
Mesquite will continue to focus on Thinking Maps in all grades. The focus of Thinking Maps is to assist our students in organizing thoughts and to empower them to use visual tools for transferring learning to all areas of their day in school. In addition to Thinking Maps, Mesquite will begin its third year as an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) school. AVID strategies will be used in all of our 4th, 5th, and 6th grade classes.
Each staff member is committed to helping your student succeed. To support this effort, we are providing each student in 4th-6th with a Planner. Each student is responsible to write down assignments, homework and projects daily. It is the parents' responsibility to check for assignments and sign the planner. Parent involvement is a key factor in your child's success in school. We appreciate your support and participation. We encourage you to be a team member in our efforts to educate your child by joining PTA, ELAC (English Learners Advisory Committee), SSC (School Site Council) and volunteering in different capacities here at school.
I am excited to be a Mesquite Mountain Lion and look forward to meeting new as well as returning students to Mesquite. Let's continue the tradition of "Celebrate the Power of Learning" in the lives of every Mesquite student for 2012 - 2013.
