I have been in education for 32 years. I began my teaching career in Spokane, Washington after graduating from Eastern Washington University with a degree in Elementary Education with a K12 Reading emphasis. My first teaching job was as a third-grade teacher at Garfield Elementary.
In 1989, I moved to Palmdale and began teaching at Cactus K-8 School. While in Palmdale, I taught 2nd, 3rd, 6th, and 8th grade.
In 2003, I became an assistant principal at Chaparral Elementary and Mesa Intermediate. After serving as the assistant principal at Mesa for three years, I took a position as the principal of Alpine School in the Keppel Union School District. In 2012, I returned to the Palmdale School District as the assistant principal at Ocotillo Elementary School. In 2015, I became the principal at Ocotillo. This school year I am proud to be the principal at SAGE Magnet Academy where I look forward to helping improve the educational experience
for all students.

My name is Melissa Contri, and it is my pleasure to be an Assistant Principal working for Palmdale School District. This is my fifth school year working for Palmdale School District and serving as an Assistant Principal at SAGE - Space & Aeronautics Gateway to Exploration Magent Academy.
I am a native to Southern California and currently reside in Los Angeles County. I grew up in La Verne and attended schools in the Bonita Unified School District. After graduating from Bonita High School. I received my undergraduate degree from the University of La Verne in Liberal Studies and then attended the University of Phoenix earning a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education. I later returned to the University of La Verne where I received my Administrative Services Credential.
I have worked in the field of Education for over 16 years. Prior to coming to Palmdale School District, I worked at Whitcomb Continuation High School, where I taught 11th and 12th graders. I believe that a collaborative school environment is key to creating successful teachers and students. The partnerships developed with parents and community partners are essential to the success of our school.
This school year I am looking forward to working with the students, families, staff, and the amazing community, who make SAGE Space & Aeronautics Gateway to Exploration Magnet Academy a great school.
