    Hello Mesquite Family!

I want to welcome everyone to Mesquite Elementary School as we begin our exciting journey into the 2020-2021 school year!  As we embark on our new school year, I want to thank, in advance, all of our Mesquite family members: our intelligent and talented student scholars along with their wonderful and supportive parents and caregivers, our dedicated and hard-working school staff, and our generous and helpful community members for all that they do to make Mesquite an outstanding learning institution!  The Mesquite family works synergistically to continuously improve and to positively transform the Mesquite learning environment and campus climate. For me, it is fantastic to be a member of the Mesquite family, and I am proud and honored to be the principal of Mesquite!

As a parent myself and as an advocate for children, I want to assure everyone that my decisions are based upon what I feel is best for kids to help them improve and grow academically, socially, and behaviorally.  With that being said, the Mesquite staff and I are planning a variety of engaging learning opportunities and exciting social activities for our student scholars. There will be celebrations for accomplishments in academics, behavior, attendance, etc.  Field trips, after school enrichment classes, student performances, and other fun events have been scheduled throughout the year.

Parent engagement is crucial to student success!  At Mesquite, we encourage our parents and caregivers to be actively involved and informed.  Parents can serve on and/or participate in our School Site Council (SSC) meetings. The SSC is comprised of parents and school staff, meets monthly, and makes decisions on improving Mesquite.  We have parent advisory committees that give suggestions and input to the SSC. These committees include AAPAC (African American Parent Advisory Committee, ELAC (English Learner Advisory Committee, GATE-PAC (Gifted and Talented Parent Advisory Committee), and PTO (Parent-Teacher Organization).  Our monthly Principal & Parent Breakfasts are fun and engaging social events where you can make friendships with other members of the Mesquite family, learn more about what is happening at Mesquite and in the Palmdale School District, give suggestions and input, learn about community resources from our community partner guest speakers, and enjoy a delicious continental breakfast.  Additionally, we have parent workshops that are facilitated by our parents, school and district staff, and/or community partners. I strongly encourage all of our parents and caregivers to actively participate in our parent engagement activities and to continually be involved in your child’s education! For more information on our parent engagement activities and school events, please contact the office or visit the Mesquite website, which is located under the Schools tab on the Palmdale School District website, as well as the Mesquite Peachjar webpage which is also located on the PSD website.  If you wish to be a classroom volunteer or a field trip chaperone, please contact the school office for more information.

I truly embrace the African proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child.”  As a member of the Mesquite family, I look forward to working with everyone to make this the best school year ever!
