Question: Who is providing the T.A.P. Chromebooks / Chrome PC?
The Palmdale School District Foundation is providing the Chromebook/Chrome PC devices for this program.
Question: What is a T.A.P. Chromebook?
Answer: A Chromebook is a used device that has been properly surplused by Palmdale School District. It has been wiped clean and unenrolled from Palmdale School District's Google Workspace.
Question: What is a T.A.P. Chrome PC?
Answer: A Chrome PC is a used device that has been properly surplused from Palmdale School District. It has been loaded with software to emulate a Chromebook!
Question: Who can get a T.A.P. Chromebook / Chrome PC?
Answer: All students currently enrolled in the Palmdale School District are eligible to receive a free Chromebook / Chrome PC device to take home. Supply is limited. Priority will be given to foster and homeless students and all others on a first-come, first-served basis.
Question: How can my child get a T.A.P. Chromebook / Chrome PC?
Answer: The parent/guardian and the student need to fill out and sign the form. Please bring the completed form with you to Building "E" at the district office.
Question: How many T.A.P. Chromebooks/Chrome PCs can my child get?
Answer: Every child will be allowed one (1) device for their tenure with the Palmdale School District.
Question: How will the T.A.P. Chromebook / Chrome PC be identified?
Answer: Each Chromebook will be marked and will have a T.A.P. sticker applied. These should not be removed from the device. However, your child is allowed to add more stickers if they wish.
Question: Will the T.A.P. Chromebook / Chrome PC be monitored at home?
Answer: No. Parents/guardians will be responsible for monitoring their child's use of the device while at home. All security software has been removed.
Question: Can my child bring the T.A.P. Chromebook / / Chrome PC to school?
Answer: Your child will have access to district-provided Chromebooks at school and should not need to bring them to do their work. If they do bring the Chromebook to school, its use will likely be restricted. Additionally, the Palmdale School District will assume no responsibility for damage or loss to the T.A.P. Chromebook while on campus.
Will my child need to return the T.A.P. Chromebook/Chrome PC if they leave the Palmdale School District?
Answer: No. The device is your child's to keep.
What if the T.A.P. Chromebook/Chrome PC breaks or no longer works while my child is in the Palmdale School District?
Answer: If the device stops working, you will need to dispose of the device through the proper channels. Waste Management has a free E-waste program. Call 661-947-7197 for days and hours.
Question: What do I do with the T.A.P. Chromebook / Chrome PC when it is no longer usable?
Answer: At the end of its life, it is your responsibility to dispose of the device properly. Local agencies allow for the free disposal of electronic devices. Please obey local laws and ordinances. Waste Management has a free E-waste program. Call 661-947-7197 for days and hours.
