Dual Immersion FAQ

Questions and Answers:
Question: If my student currently attends Palmdale School District, do I need to re-enroll/register him in the new school?
Answer: No. You do not need to re-enroll or register for the new school. Your student will automatically be transferred.

Question: If my student is currently a Dual Immersion student at Tamarisk or Desert Rose, will they continue in the Dual Immersion Program at their new school site?
Answer: Yes! All dual immersion students will remain in the dual immersion program. If your student was in the Dual Immersion program at Tamarisk, they will be assigned to what is currently Tumbleweed Elementary. If your student was enrolled at Desert Rose Dual Immersion, they will be transferred to Manzanita Elementary.

Question: Will the school names for Tumbleweed and Manzanita change in the near future?
Answer: The school's name will likely change in the near future. This change will be widely advertised and will likely include a re-naming ceremony.

Question: If my student is not currently enrolled in Palmdale School District, and we are interested in the Dual Immersion program, do I need to enroll and complete the lottery?
Answer: Yes. You must enroll and complete the lottery registration. Both of these processes are completed via online registration. Please complete both simultaneously; waiting for lottery results before enrolling will delay the process.

Question: What if my student is currently enrolled at Tumbleweed or Manzanita and NOT enrolled in the Dual Immersion program? Can we apply for that program (and remain at that school)?
Answer: Yes, provided there is program availability! However, based on your student’s grade level, you/they must complete the following:
Grades K-2: Complete the lottery.
Grades 3-6: Complete the lottery and PASS the Spanish Competency Assessment. Schedule the Spanish Competency Assessment at your current zoned school.

Question: If one of my children is currently enrolled in the Dual Immersion Program at Los Amigos or Dos Caminos, will the district accommodate the transfer of their younger sibling to Los Amigos or Dos Caminos?
Answer: The district will try to keep siblings together; however, it’s not guaranteed.

Question: What if I’m unhappy with my student's new “zoned” school? How can I apply for them to attend a new monolingual school?
Answer: Request an Intra district transfer form from your current zoned school or visit the Student Services website.

Question: Will transportation be provided for this change?
Answer: If you live within 1.5 miles (for K-5th grades) or within 2 miles (for 6th-8th grades) (as the crow flies) of your newly zoned school, transportation will not be provided. If you live outside of the 1.5-mile radius, you may submit a request for bus transportation. Please contact transportation for more detailed information at (661) 789.6588.

Question: If my student is a monolingual student (English Only) at Tamarisk or Desert Rose, and I am on an Intra or Inter-district transfer, do my students continue on that campus?
Answer: Yes, no need to do anything. Your student will remain on the campus they are currently enrolled at.

Question: If my student is monolingual (English Only) and enrolled at Tumbleweed or Manzanita, and I am on an intra or inter-district transfer, where will my student be placed?
Answer: Please see the explanation for intra and inter-district transfers:
Intra-district transfers: You will be transferred back to your zoned school.
Inter-district transfers: Your student was assigned to a school closest to your home address.
Inter-district transfers: Your student was assigned to a school closest to your home address.
