The African American Parent Advisory Committee (AAPAC) is an advisory committee to the School Site Council (SSC). Every school site (aside from our smaller specialized schools) has an AAPAC that provides suggestions to the SSC. It is the task of those SSC’s to respond to the suggestions of the AAPAC and address concerns and provide support for our African American student population. It is beneficial to have a high functioning AAPAC at every site in order to focus on the many concerns and strategies around improving student achievement for our African American students: a population that has been historically underserved. The advisory function of the AAPAC is not only to present suggestions to the SSC. It has a secondary duty of suggesting to and carrying out tasks of the designated policy focused body: AAAC.

Since 2007 Palmdale School District has maintained an African American Advisory Committee (AAAC). This committee is comprised of a representation of all stakeholders in our district. The committee advises the school district on various items that pertain to African American students and their achievement in school. The AAAC functions in alignment with the Palmdale PROMISE ensuring the vision and mission of the district is fulfilled through actualizing the values and beliefs of: high intellectual performance, equity, building on cultural strengths, integrity, and community. Building great parent to school partnerships through collaborative practices and increased parent involvement assists all students in higher achievement. Additionally, it is the plan of the AAAC to encourage culturally relevant practices on all school sites in an effort to continually affirm our diverse student populations. AAAC functions as a policy oversite committee that reviews policy pertaining to African American students and advises on administration of policy practices.
